Marshall County Mugshot Records
A booking photograph records how a person appeared during a specific admission. It should be tied to the booking number, date, and agency. The image does not show why custody ended. It also does not prove that the person is still confined. Read the release event, court disposition, or correctional status as a separate record.
West Virginia FOIA begins with access to existing nonexempt public records, not a blanket rule that every arrest photo must be published. A custodian can withhold or redact protected personal, investigative, juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, victim, or security-sensitive material. No fixed Marshall County photo retention term or categorical publication rule was found. Ask whether the image remains in OIS, an archive, or another system.
A regional-jail booking image and a prison offender image may show different custody episodes. The WVDCR Offender Search hub separates those jail and prison routes. Northern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility performs both jail and correctional functions, which makes matching the episode especially important in Marshall County.
The underlying offender file can hold more than the public portal shows. WVDCR policy identifies booking documents, property records, time sheets, signed releases, and parole material within its information system. That inventory supports asking for one existing image and its episode identifier. It does not make every internal item public or prove that the portal retains a photo after release.
Where Marshall County Mugshots Appear
The official discovery channels have different scopes and limits. The Marshall Sheriff feed is short-lived. WVDCR separates jail and prison searches. A focused record request reaches an existing image that is maintained and nonexempt, while news and commercial copies may persist without a reliable status update.
| Channel | Photo coverage | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Sheriff current roster and 48-hour release feed | Unverified because the researched feed had no populated card | Check the official page, then match any image to the booking episode |
| WVDCR jail search | Image when supplied by the live result | Use for a regional-jail admission and read current custody separately |
| WVDCR prison search | Offender photo when supplied | Use for a state correctional record after sentence or transfer |
| Focused agency request | Possible if maintained and nonexempt | Request the booking photo by person, episode, and identifier |
| VINE | Interface-dependent and not a photo archive | Use mainly for custody status and notification |
| Official press or news coverage | Occasional, not systematic | Treat the image as publication evidence, not release proof |
| Commercial archive category | Copies may persist | Do not rely on it to verify status, release, or completeness |
The Marshall County released inmate search supplies the separate custody and release checks needed before drawing a conclusion from any photo.
Marshall County Sheriff Mugshots
The Marshall County Sheriff roster chooser links to current inmates and an official 48-hour release view. During research, both views displayed zero records. No populated card was available to show whether the released feed includes a booking photograph, release time, charge, or identifier. Its “Released Inmates Booking Date Descending” title does not prove that photos appear.
The page's “Marshall County Detention Center” label also differs from WVDCR's operating map, which identifies Northern Regional Jail as the regional facility serving Marshall. Use the feed as a local clue, then verify the operator and episode through WVDCR. The browser auto-reloads on a timer, but that front-end behavior does not establish how often release data changes.
The Marshall County 24-Hour Release List explains why the official product must still be called a 48-hour feed. It also gives the fallback when a needed event is absent.
Note: Photo coverage on Marshall County's empty released-inmate feed remains unverified and must not be assumed from its page labels.
Request a Marshall County Booking Photo
WVDCR operates Northern Regional Jail, so it is the first custodian to ask about a booking image from that facility. Because the Sheriff hosts the 48-hour feed, a narrow second inquiry may ask whether the Sheriff keeps the underlying feed record or republishes another system. The Sheriff's contact form warns against sending sensitive information by email and says email is not watched around the clock. Call 304-843-1500 for routing before sending identifiers.
- Identify the episode. Provide the exact name, documented alternate spelling, booking or OID number, Marshall case number, and approximate admission dates.
- Name the existing record. Ask for the booking photograph from that episode, plus the booking or release sheet only if needed to match it.
- Choose the custodian. Start with WVDCR or Northern Regional Jail. Ask the Sheriff separately only about the records behind its own feed.
- Request electronic delivery. West Virginia FOIA permits actual reproduction cost, but not search, retrieval, or man-hour charges under §29B-1-3.
- Handle withheld material. Ask for the statutory basis and any reasonably segregable nonexempt part instead of assuming every image must be released.
The custodian must respond within the statutory framework by furnishing the record, setting an inspection route, or giving a written denial. The deadline is not a guarantee that the full production will arrive in five calendar days. No local photo form or fixed photo fee was verified.
Keep the request narrow. Ask for the image already tied to one booking episode, not a new gallery or list. If the person was transferred into the correctional side or another WVDCR prison, state that fact and ask whether a later offender image exists. A request can also seek the release code and destination when the photo must be matched to the correct departure event.
Section 29B-1-4 may support withholding or redaction for protected material. A written denial should identify the legal basis. Section 29B-1-5 provides an enforcement route in circuit court, but a specific request for administrative fields and a segregable image may resolve the issue without demanding unrelated file material.
Marshall County Mugshots in News
Official sheriff press releases or linked social posts can contain incident images, but research found no systematic Marshall County release-photo archive. A news report may also reproduce an arrest image. Such publication proves only that the image appeared at that time. It does not show whether the charge was dismissed, the person transferred, or the record was later sealed or expunged.
Commercial mugshot and data-collection sites may retain copies after an official page changes. They are described only as a category because they are not the source of the Marshall custody event. No commercial link is needed, and no removal service is endorsed. Confirm the episode through the Sheriff, WVDCR, and the court record instead.
When two images differ, compare booking numbers, dates, and agencies. A WVDCR prison image may postdate the regional-jail booking photo. A same-name match without an identifier is too weak.
Marshall County Mugshots After Expungement
West Virginia Code §61-11-25 expressly includes photographs within records affected by eligible expungement after an acquittal or dismissal. A person generally cannot seek that relief until the statutory waiting point and must meet all conditions. When granted, court records are sealed and covered agency records are expunged. Agencies then certify compliance within the statute's period.
Section 61-11-26 governs qualifying convictions and has substantial exclusions. Its waiting periods depend on the kind and number of convictions and run from the latest controlling event, which can include the end of supervision. Release from jail alone does not prove eligibility. Use current Judiciary instructions and the correct case record.
An absent image after expungement cannot be treated as proof that no arrest or release occurred. It shows only that the searched source did not return the photo.
No Marshall County Mugshot App
No verified Marshall County, West Virginia sheriff mobile app with a roster, recent-release, or mugshot feature was found. Search results for a similarly named sheriff app repeatedly led to Marshall County, Alabama. That app must not be presented as a West Virginia source.
The West Virginia sheriff site does offer SMS and email alerts for newly published site items and links to Facebook. Neither channel was verified as a person-specific release-photo service. VINE is the proper person-specific custody-change alert for participating WVDCR records, though it is not a permanent photo archive.
This negative finding matters. Readers should not be sent to the wrong county or promised an app-only photo channel that Marshall County has not documented.
Marshall County Photo Removal Rules
West Virginia Code §62-1-6a defines a booking photograph and limits law-enforcement agency social-media sharing for a minor offense, subject to listed exceptions. For this provision, the law excludes WVDCR and its subordinates from the definition of a law-enforcement agency. The social-post rule therefore must not be extended automatically to a WVDCR offender-search image.
The statute supplies a removal-after-request route when an agency shared a photo on social media and the case ended in one of the specified favorable outcomes. It sets a 14-day agency response for that remedy. Removal of a social post does not erase the underlying booking file and does not establish release.
The official statute page shown below is the source for that distinction.
Review West Virginia's booking-photograph statute before making a removal request.
The statute focuses on specified agency social posts and favorable case outcomes, not on a broad promise that all copies will disappear.
No current general West Virginia anti-pay-to-remove law was verified. A prior proposal contained such terms, but that language was not found in the current code. Do not treat a bill proposal as enacted law or promise removal from a commercial archive.
A removal request should identify the official post, the booking photo, the qualifying case outcome, and the requester's authority. It should not be framed as a release-record correction unless the release data itself is wrong. For an expunged case, use the court order and the statute that governs agency compliance. For a social post covered by §62-1-6a, use that section's narrower remedy.
